Model Railway
Had Sisyphus of Greek Mythology lived in modern times, he would certainly have invented the model railway. Because one of the properties of model railways is it is never finished!
The rails of this miniature world, which has a scale of 1:87, will soon be 500 metres long. It is already the third model that brothers Peter (dispatcher) and Paul (architect) Gruber have built. This new miniature world, which was started in 2004, is now digitally controlled for the first time (timetable logistics: Peter Jirka) and this way the trains recognise the signals well in advance, gently reduce their speed and stop dutifully. They hoot before entering tunnels and at the railway yard they quickly get to work.
Shunters, steam trains, intercity, regional trains: there are fifty trains on the 80m² facility - half of which can be travelling at the same time. They travel to Baden-Baden, Freidrichsstadt and three other small train stations, or to the hidden yard with 8 tracks, pass over 100 points, 60 signals and more than 300 support contacts. In addition the railway includes trams, rack railways and cable cars as well as a chairlift in scenery, where sometimes the sun is shining, and at others it is wrapped in darkness.
